Free London Street Photography Walk: West End & Soho (Interactive Route)

Street Photography London Guided Route

Free Interactive Street Photography London Guided Route

If you fancy a proper London street photography walk that actually feels doable, I’ve put one together and made it free.

It’s an interactive, self-guided route through the West End and Soho, featuring a numbered map, 12 stops, and simple shooting prompts at each.

So rather than wandering about thinking “this should be good” and then coming home with nothing, you’ve got a plan. No real rules, just a way of helping you “see”.get you seeing.

Quick route facts

  • Time: 2 to 3 hours (short version available)

  • Distance: roughly 3 to 4 km

  • Best time: weekday mornings for cleaner shots, late afternoon into evening for a bit more theatre energy on the street

  • Accessibility: mostly fine, but Soho gets tight when it’s busy

What makes this walk different

Most “London street photography location” posts are basically a list. You tick a few places off, get a coffee or beer, and that’s that.

This is a proper route you can follow, and each stop tells you where to stand, what to look for, and what to do when you get there.

There’s also a Start Walk mode that saves your progress, plus a shorter version if you’ve only got 60 to 90 minutes.

The route

The walk starts up around Tottenham Court Road and pulls you down into Soho, using the West End’s mix of signage, crossings, side streets, squares, and people flow to give you different kinds of photographs.

You’ll hit busy, layered scenes where you can build a picture and wait for the moment, and you’ll also get a couple of calmer “reset” spots where the photos are quieter but, honestly, sometimes better.

How to use the free London Street Photography Guide

Pick a time when you can move slowly. That sounds obvious, but most people rush because central London makes you feel like you should rush.

Then do one simple thing: commit to each stop for longer than feels comfortable. Even five minutes. It’s amazing how quickly the good stuff starts happening once you stop chasing it.

If you want an extra little challenge, set yourself a tiny project for the day: reflections-only, backlight-only, one focal length, or one subject type. The route still works; you just see it differently.

I’ve designed the guides to be totally interactive so you can monitor your progress, tick off stops completed, go backwards or just explore more.

Want to do a Street Photography Workshop with me?

If you enjoy the route, you’d probably get on well with my in-person street photography workshops too.

They’re relaxed but educational. We’ll shoot together, I’ll help you spot opportunities you’d normally walk straight past, and we’ll talk about what’s working and what isn’t, without it turning into a glorified photo walk.

I’ve tutored well over 1,000 photographers at this point, and the goal is always the same: help you become a better observer and shoot more intuitively.

More routes coming

This West End and Soho walk is the first of a set. London has loads of areas that suit this “stop-by-stop” approach, and I’ll keep adding them as I build them properly.

If you want first dibs on new ones when they go live, keep an eye on the blog or hop on the newsletter.
