Sports Photography with Fujifilm X-T5 Cameras

Earlier in July, I headed up the University of Wolverhampton to British Judo HQ as part of the British Teams Judo Championship media team.

As I was for the Junior European Championships, I was very grateful to legendary Judo Photographer Mike Varey for mentoring me on the day.

As you may know, I’m a 1st Dan and Judo Coach at Cirencester Judo Club (come along on Mondays & Wednesdays if you fancy getting into this fantastic sport).

Storytelling

This event aimed to get more images from a storytelling point of view rather than “just” the action. The Teams Event is unique in that it brings with it fierce rivalry, fun, passion, and raucous support. It’s a fantastic event to watch and even better to photograph.

Gear

For this session, I used two Fujifilm X-T5s, Viltrox 75mm F1.2, Viltrox 27mm F1.2 and Fujifilm XF 56mm F1.2 (Mark II).

Can you use Fujifilm Cameras for Sports Photography?

I get asked about Fujifilm cameras and focusing all the time. I often see people grandly state that “they are leaving Fujifilm for Sony because the AF is not up to it.” This is simply not true, and those people have not taken the time to learn how to use their Fujifilm cameras properly. The important thing when shooting fast-moving stuff with Fujifilm is to fully understand the Release Priority Settings.

A Note of the Editing
