Portrait Photography, Actor Headshots and Business Branding
This section of my website showcases recent portrait sessions from my studio in Malmesbury, Wiltshire, including actor headshots, business branding photography, and personal portrait work.
Some of these shoots are created for Spotlight and casting. Others are for entrepreneurs, creatives, and business owners who need strong, up-to-date imagery for their website, press, LinkedIn, or social media.
And some are simply about making honest, well-crafted portraits of people at a particular point in their lives or careers.
If you’d like to get a feel for how I work, see examples of recent sessions, or explore the portrait services I offer, you’ll find it all here.
Types of Portrait Sessions I Photograph Most Often
Although every session is slightly different, most of the portrait work I photograph falls into three broad areas.
Actor headshots are usually about clarity, honesty and range.
The aim is to create current images that feel like the actor, not some overly polished version of them.
These sessions are often designed with Spotlight, agents and casting in mind, so the photographs need to be clean, recognisable and useful.
Business branding photo sessions are a little different. They still need to feel natural, but they also need to reflect the person behind the business.
That might mean a more polished portrait for a website, a relaxed image for social media, or a set of photographs with enough variety to support press, speaking engagements and everyday marketing.
Then there are the more general studio portraits.
These can be personal, editorial in feel, or simply a chance to make strong photographs without forcing them into a commercial box. Sometimes those are my favourite sessions, if I’m honest, because they leave a little more room to breathe.
Cinematic headshots with a musical thread
A calm, considered portrait session for a London-based musicologist. Classic colour headshots and a filmic monochrome set with subtle musical context.
Capturing Malmesbury's Musical Journey: Behind the Lens of 'Athelstan to Aldi'
Photographing the artists behind Athelstan to Aldi was an incredible journey through Malmesbury’s history. Each image I created reflected the story behind their songs, from King Athelstan to the arrival of Aldi. It was a privilege to bring these unique narratives to life through photography for such a special project.
One of the things I think matters most in portrait photography is making the session feel relaxed.
Whether I’m photographing an actor who needs updated headshots or a business owner who hates being in front of the camera, the process has to feel straightforward.
No pressure to perform. Just enough direction to help, with space for the photographs to feel like the person rather than the session.
That’s especially important with headshots. The moment someone starts looking like they are trying too hard, the image usually loses something.
I’d much rather work towards photographs that feel natural, current and grounded in who somebody actually is.
The same goes for branding portraits. They can be polished, certainly, but they still need some life in them.
My approach to portrait sessions
I keep sessions relaxed and straightforward.
The aim is always to create photographs that feel natural, current and useful.
Whether the images are for Spotlight, business branding or something more personal, they still need to look like you.
Selected images are delivered in both colour and monochrome in my signature filmic style.
Thinking About a Session of Your Own?
If you’re looking for actor headshots, business branding photography or a studio portrait session, my Malmesbury studio is set up for exactly that.
Some people come to me because they need practical, up-to-date headshots for casting or work. Others want something a little more thoughtful and personal. Either way, the aim is the same - strong portraits that feel honest, polished and genuinely useful.
