Business Branding Photos for a Therapist in My Malmesbury Studio
Recently, I photographed a branding portrait session in my Malmesbury studio for a therapist who needed a set of images for her business.
The aim was not just to create a standard headshot, though of course we made those too. This was really about building a small library of photographs she could use across her website, About page, social media, and general business marketing.
Images that felt professional yet personal enough to reflect the nature of her work.
Why Branding Photos are Important for Therapists
For therapists, counsellors and other client-facing professionals, branding photography can be incredibly important for potential clients.
Good branding photos help a website feel more personal and more trustworthy. They also make a business feel established and real, which is important when someone is deciding whether to contact the business for the first time.
A standard headshot should cover the basics, but a fuller branding session gives you more to work with for marketing purposes.
Portraits for the homepage. Images for an About page. Details that can sit alongside text. Photographs for Instagram, newsletters, blog posts, etc.
In other words, images that support the brand as a whole, not just a profile picture.
Creating Branding Portraits That Feel Personal
One of the key things we wanted to do in this session was create photographs that felt relevant to her business rather than generic. You can see a similar approach I took to a branding photoshoot for a London Musicologist.
Her work involves the use of her hands, so we made sure that some of the portraits nodded towards that. In the main images, but also as standalone photographs for her marketing.
That is often what makes branding photography work well. Sometimes it is the smaller details that help an image feel more connected to a person’s work. A gesture. A posture. Something subtle, but enough to make the photographs feel specific to that individual and their practice.
More Than Just a Headshot
This is why I tend to think of sessions like this as branding shoots rather than just headshot sessions.
A headshot is useful, obviously. Most people need one. But branding photography gives you room to create something broader and more useful.
It allows for different crops, different expressions, and different moods. It can give you variety, which is especially helpful when you are building or refreshing a business website.
For this therapist branding session, we created a mixture of straightforward portraits and more reflective images that could work across different parts of her business presence.
Some are better suited to an About page. Some would sit well on a homepage banner or service page. Others are supporting images that can be dropped into a page design to give the whole site a more polished and consistent feel.
That’s why I like to create some wide, panoramic-type photographs too.
My Style of Business Branding Photography
I photograph these sessions in a way that feels natural and relaxed.
I am not interested in making people look overworked or overly retouched. That can be tempting with business portraits, perhaps, but I think it often strips away too much personality.
What I want instead is a set of images that feel professional and refined while still looking human.
That usually means careful lighting, subtle direction, natural expressions, and an edit with a subtle filmic quality rather than a harsh digital finish.
It is a look that works especially well for therapists, creatives, small business owners, and professionals whose brand depends on warmth and trust.
Colour and Black and White Versions Included
As with all of my studio portrait sessions, the selected images from this shoot were delivered in both colour and black and white.
That gives clients a bit more flexibility in how they use the photographs.
Colour is often the obvious choice for a main website and day-to-day business use, but black and white can work beautifully for profile images, editorial placements, social posts, or anywhere a more timeless feel is wanted.
Branding Photography in Malmesbury for Therapists and Small Businesses
My photography studio is based in Malmesbury, Wiltshire, and I regularly photograph branding portraits, headshots and studio portraits for a wide range of clients.
That includes therapists, actors, business owners, freelancers, creatives and people who simply need better photographs for their website or professional profile.
Some sessions are built around one clear purpose, such as a headshot for a directory listing or Spotlight profile photos.
Others, like this one, are more about creating a small collection of brand images to support a business across multiple platforms.
Either way, the process is relaxed and straightforward. Most people are not used to being in front of a camera, and that is completely normal. A big part of the session is simply helping people settle into it and feel comfortable enough to look like themselves.
