Hugging - From a Wedding at The Manor House Castle Combe

Why I Love this Wedding Photograph

Manor House Castle Combe Wedding Photography

A happy moment from this wedding at The Manor House, Castle Combe

We are going back to 2012 for this delve into my wedding photography archives, and the wedding of TV presenter Will Glennon to his beautiful wife, Emily.

In a twist of fate, Will and I grew up in the same town in Wales, and, attended the same school.

This wedding was some eight years ago now, but I still remember it vividly.

Emily and her bridesmaids were fun and entertaining all day, and the whole wedding was simply perfect.

This particular photograph always stands out in my mind, though.

You’ll know if you have my notes on Documentary Wedding Photography that I operate as a fly-on-the-wall photographer. Often, this means I will be able to get photographs of moments that may not have otherwise been possible with a more traditional style wedding photographer.

In this photograph, one of the uncles can be seen in the background, taking some family shots of the bridesmaids. But what caught my eye was the interaction between Emily and one of her friends.

I spotted her friend making a beeline for Emily and positioned myself to get the shot of that great big wonderful hug.

However, I also wanted to add context to the photograph. And to do that, I needed to position myself to be able to include the family interaction in the background.

In the photography world, this is called layering, and when done well, can bring life to a photograph.

I love this wedding photo from Emily and Will’s wedding at The Manor House at Castle Combe, and I hope you do too.
