  • Trafalgar Square London, England, WC2N 5DS United Kingdom (map)

Join Kevin on this exploration, through imagery, of London’s famous west end.

Concentrating on the core principles of light, composition & moment, you will enjoy a day using theory, technique and observational skills to enhance your street photography.

We will, of course, be shooting to create monochromatic storytelling, a well-curated series of images.

Learn to see the street in black and white.

Spend a day photographing London’s West End with me, exploring how light, composition and moment come together in a monochrome image.

We’ll look for the things that give black-and-white photographs their strength: the relationship between light and dark, the shape of a scene and the small gestures that make it worth photographing. Through practical assignments, you’ll have time to explore those ideas at your own pace, with individual guidance as you work.

The group is limited to four photographers. That gives us room for questions, help with the challenges you encounter and a closer look at the decisions behind your pictures. We’ll finish together in a bar or coffee shop with an in-person editing session, connecting what you noticed on the street with the finished monochrome image.

Friday, 12 March 2027 · 11.30am–5.30pm
London West End · Maximum four participants
£175 per person · In-person editing session included

During the day, you’ll work on:

  • Recognising light, tone and shape while you are photographing.

  • Using composition and timing to give a scene a clear subject.

  • Becoming more comfortable photographing candidly and working closer to the action.

  • Finding themes and connections between individual images.

  • Selecting and processing monochrome photographs with a clearer intention.

Beginners and experienced street photographers are welcome, using any camera system. No specialist monochrome camera is needed.

Transport and accommodation are not included. We may use the Tube as well as walking between locations.
