London Welsh Rugby Club: Rob Brydon & The Pride of Lions
Rob Brydon interviews Brian Moore, Colin Charvis, Sir Gareth Edwards & John Taylor
I’d been looking forward to this one for weeks—probably more than I should admit—but when London Welsh Rugby Club teamed up with Rob Brydon and a troop of British & Irish Lions royalty, well, how could I resist?
Especially given I’m an ex-player myself—fifteen years donning the red and black, five of those as captain of the hallowed Veterans team.
On 13 June 2025, The Brewery on Chiswell Street was transformed into a shrine to all things rugby: a sun-drenched courtyard, the hum of anticipation, glasses tinkling, and a queue of legends ready to swap stories over lunch.
Walking in, I couldn’t help but feel that familiar flutter—part photographer’s excitement, part old-player nostalgia. Rob Brydon was witty, warm, and genuinely thrilled to be amid the likes of Sir Gareth Edwards and Sir Gerald Davies. Classic Brydon, eyes alight, as he teased Sir Iain McGeechan about one of his old touring tales. Those candid moments? That’s what I live for.
Sir Gareth was every bit the statesman you’d expect—standing tall, gracious, with a touch of that famously dry Welsh wit.
For me, it was equally about reconnecting with faces I’d shared muddy pitches and post-match pints with. I traded a raised eyebrow and a knowing smile; there were laughs, a few faux boasts, and the kind of comfortable camaraderie you only get from fifteen years in the same trenches.
So that’s my take on lunch with Rob Brydon and the Pride of Lions. An ex-player’s dream, a reunion with old faces, and—naturally—plenty of prime photographic opportunities. I’ll be sifting through a few hundred shots to pick out the ones that sing, but I reckon I’ve got enough to tell the story: legends sharing a table, memories in the making, and summer 2025 stamped firmly in all our minds.
