Wow! Its been a long time since I revisited some of my older images. I was just trawling through some this evening, and came across a shot I did of the Newport City Footbridge back in 2009 (24th February to be precise). It was one of the first images that I moved into black and white and set me on my path with a love of black and white photography.
Even images like this, of a bridge, reflected in the River Usk can look great with a monochrome adjustment. When I took this photograph Newport was undergoing a major facelift in preparation, partially, for the Ryder Cup a few years later – but also as an overall regeneration programme. Sadly, the economic circumstance that affected us all, affected the City plans too and it took much longer than anticipated for the cranes and scaffolding to be removed.
However, after a few years, Newport really has morphed into a new, and vibrant metropolis, with a wonderful waterfront to explore that includes a medieval castle, this bridge and the world-famous Transporter Bridge.
