“We’d love you to photograph our Caswell House Wedding”
…they said. “It’s going to be great and a LOT of fun”. There was emphasis on fun and when I did photograph the wedding of Emma and Stuart at the very gorgeous Oxfordshire wedding venue, Caswell House Barns near Brize Norton. So off I trotted one rather wet morning in May to Oxfordshire, cameras in hand to find a truly wonderful scene; everyone having fun. Lot’s of it. And this was before the wedding even began.
I knew it would be a good day. Bridal prep with Emma and her bridesmaids was well under way by the time I arrived and luckily, by then the weather had started to clear and the forecast was for a very promising. Sure enough, by the time the ceremony started (once all the thunder flies had been cleared with a liberal dosing of vinegar around the gardens), Emma and her bridal party exited into the gorgeous grounds at Caswell House for the outdoor ceremony. And it was, simply put, beautiful. Emotional in parts, funny in parts but always full of love.
The wedding day is often the first time I meet the couple I’ve been commissioned by and I could instantly sense a sizzling bond between Emma and Stuart that just became more and more apparent throughout the day, Because I’m a documentary wedding photographer, this means it’s my responsibility to tell the story of the day, visually. I like to do this from the inside out, rather than the outside in and that means I like to deliver images that allow the Emma and Stuart to see their wedding almost from the eyes of another guest – rather than the distant eyes of a photographer.
The only way to do this is to get right in to the action and get close images that really give an essence of the day both visually, but hopefully emotionally too. As Emma and Stuart’s Caswell House Wedding progressed into the wedding breakfast and speeches it was evident that everyone there were really having a great time. In the early evening, it was time for the gorgeous light to cast itself down upon some “al fresco” dancing in the court yard. This culminated with an amazing stand-off dance with Stuart and Emma that needs to be seen to be believed and if you watch the slideshow I’ve prepared of the wedding after the still images below you may get a better idea of this. Emma and Stuart’s Caswell House Wedding was fun, as they promised, and I thoroughly enjoyed making the visual story of their wedding day for them.
Please take a look at the images below, and, if you have time, press play on the slideshow. It’s an extended highlights reel of a great day in May. And if you really feel like it, please do share on social media.
