I met Sarah and David well over a year ago when they were looking for a Charlton Wedding Photographer to shoot the wedding they had just started planning.  Charlton is a lovely little village very close to where I live, made more famous recently, by the brilliant WOMAD festival that takes place there every summer.

When we chatted informally about there wedding plans, both Sarah and David were really keen on a very relaxed and chilled out day with their friends and family, and for the photography to reflect this.  The wedding day preparations for Sarah began at the nearby Rectory Hotel (which if course I’m very used to as I shoot several weddings there each year).  Once the makeup and hair had been completed (and Sarah was looking absolutely stunning in her dress) I headed over to Charlton and St. John the Baptist church for the wedding ceremony itself.

There I was greeted by a not-to-apprehensive-looking David and his best man and grooms-men.  The weather, although changeable later in the day, was good to us for the most part and this being June, in England, we were pretty lucky to see any sun at all.

The ceremony was lovely, and Sarah’s dad appeared extremely proud walking his beautiful daughter down the aisle.  The little pre-wedding nerves deserting David no doubt as he watched his bride enter the church.  After a short spin in the sports car, the newly-weds headed over to The Horse and Groom, Charlton for their drinks reception, marquee wedding breakfast, wonderful and moving speeches, tossing of the bridal bouquet and lots and lots of groovy dancing.  As I left in the evening I had lots of lovely memories from the day, not least the wonderfully infectious smile and laughter that Sarah and David where exhibiting throughout the whole day.  I know they will be a very happy couple together.

As always, a small selection of some of my favourites from this wedding in Charlton.  Please feel free to leave a comment and share on social media.

Too many to choose a favourite! Every now and then you see pictures from a wedding and think; “Now there’s one a wedding I would like to have been a guest at.” This is definitely one of those, and that’s in no small part down to your work with the lens! Neale

I see you seem to shoot quite a bit wide open, I was wondering if you use any flash at all? Also, what equipment do you usually use? Do you ever use the Fuji x100 or xpro 1? Nice pics.

Stunning PJ work as always Kevin. Very inspiring…. I would love to invest in the x1oo but I’m a little worried on some of the comments on the net regarding its AF. How would you say it compares to your Mk111 for AF. Many thanks, Andy.

      Hi Andy,

The thing to remember with the X100 is that it isn’t a DSLR – the 5D3 has dedicated processing for AF. That said, once you learn to use it, you get used to the way it focuses and I have no issue with it at all. For a stealth, low weight, low light camera it’s just stunning.

Excellent coverage, Kev. Lovely moments. Hopefully we can catch up in the Winter when the family and I make it over the pond! See you soon.

Hi Kevin Great set of images, love the expressions you have captured. Did you show the images in b&w and if so do they want colour as well?

Great imagery Kevin. The one with the child held by the man is lovely and the one with the couple exiting the church gate -and the Bride is laughing- is a joy to look at. I like the off-beat moments (men getting off the bus). Also the way the focus moves on the two pictures when the Bride is throwing the flowers. Did you manual focus that?

Hi Kevin, great set of images there. Do you find you get any distortion of the people whilst shooting on the Canon 24mm lens? Or do you just have to keep them central to avoid it? Helen.

    reply
    • Kevin Mullins September 18, 2012

Hi Helen, I tend to use the 24mm on a crop body because this. I use the 35mm on the full frame. I also use lens profile alignment in Lightroom.

      Thanks for the kind words,

      Kevin

Another great set Kevin. The photographs just after the ceremony, in and around the car are fantastic.
