Cheltenham Wedding Photography

A few weeks back, I photographed the wedding of Pete and Lindsay in Cheltenham. It was a glorious day weather wise, and the wedding itself was just perfect too.

The ceremony was held at luxurious Queens Hotel in Royal Cheltenham Spa, with the rest of the festivities held at the wonderful Postlip Tithe Barn. Lindsay, Pete and their friends and family spent many hours decorating the barn themselves, including supplying several local ales on tap which pleased many of the guests (especially in this part of Gloucestershire :-) ).

Lindsay had mentioned to me in the pre-wedding meetings that her parents were part of a folk band. When, on the day, I found out that that band was the legendary 70s folk band Frogmorton I was a little star-struck throughout the day. This wonderful wedding was complete for me when Frogmorton themselves played a set to cover the first dance and to kick off the evening celebrations.

As always, here are a selection of my favourites from the day – all shot in a completely natural, non-intrusive photojournalist way.

Wedding Photography at Hanbury Hall

In July, I photographed the wonderful joint ceremonies of Izzy & Paul and Ross & Ian.  The ceremonies and wedding breakfast were at the resplendent Hanbury Hall in Worcestershire, with a very warm and welcoming reception later on at Izzy’s mums house in Ombersley.

Izzy & Paul were married, with Ross & Ian celebrating a civil partnership immediately after.  The speeches were out in the wonderful gardens of this magnificent building.   Later, the whole party jumped on some charabanc style buses and headed back to a lovely garden party, complete with Hog Roast and Yerts (and more speeches!).

It really was a wonderful day, and I know that Izzy, Paul, Ross and Ian all enjoyed themselves immensely – as did all their friends and family.

Here are a few of my favourites from the day.  As usual, shot with a photojournalist approach. Please click to enlarge the images.

Wedding Photography in West Wales

So, the end of June saw me heading to my homeland of Wales to photograph Geraint (Red) and Ruth’s wedding. Another old buddy of mine from my rugby days, I’ve known Red for many years and it was a privilege to be the photographer for their wedding.

The celebrations started on the Friday evening in Tenby, with the wedding itself being held at St. Mary’s Church. I have to say this church, nestled in the little seaside town, is a wonderful venue. The church is light, airy and just stunning. The vicar was very cool too – even allowing the bridal party to crack open some champagne during the register signing.

Knowing Red, the ceremony would not be complete without its full complement of patriotic Welsh songs (complete with opera singers) – and, of course, Ruth being a northern lass had her fair share of traditional English hymns too.

They celebrated late into the night at the Trefloyne Golf Club, where Red was reunited with his long-lost Tonka Toy! – A great day, a great couple who are I know will have a lot of fun in their new lives together.

As always, a handful of my favourites from the day – all shot from a documentary point of view. Please click the images to view larger versions.

Lincolnshire Wedding Photography

In June, I took the lovely drive all the way up the Lincolnshire to a lovely little place called Ashby cum Fenby (yes, its really called that).

Alex and Vicky got married at The Hall Farm Hotel & Restaurant there. On a picture perfect day, the theme of the wedding was summer casual and all the chaps looked very relaxed in their loud and Hawaiian shirts, while the ladies all looked beautiful on one of the warmest days of the years.

I’ve known Alex and Vicky a long time – Alex being an old rugby playing friend of mine so it was lovely to be able to photograph their wedding.

As usual, the day was shot in a reportage manor, and here are a small selection of my favourites from the day (please click to see larger versions).

Wedding Photography at Plaisterers’ Hall, One London Wall

At the end of May I travelled up to London to photograph Poppy and Rasim’s wedding held at Plaisterers’ Hall – One London Wall.

It was an absolute pleasure to be there, and I genuinely enjoyed all the traditions and atmosphere that a Turkish Cypriot wedding generates.

For the photographers who read this blog, I used a combination of a Canon 5D MKII and a Canon 1D MKIV and shot the whole day using just available light. Also, some of you may be interested in an article I wrote for The Photography parlour recently: Behind the scenes of a documentary wedding photography shoot.

Poppy had specifically chosen me because she wanted a documentary style wedding photographer and here are some of my favourites from the day:
