Part of my job as a documentary wedding photographer is to tell the whole story of the day.
More often, than not, this includes bridal preparation of some sort.
When I do shoot this part of the day, I always want to capture images that really highlight the story unfolding, but also, where possible, use the light and shadow to make an appealing image.
In the case of this image from Emma and Stacey’s Gosfield Hall Wedding, I really wanted to use the strong window light that was streaming through into the bridal chamber.
Creating a semi-silhouette I think works really well here. The light is strong, but because of the direction, and my choice of position, it gives a nice sidelight to the make-up artist whilst also accentuating the spray as it ejects into the air.
