Backstory:

Two colour images in two days….. something must be going on with the planets.  Anyhow, following yesterdays Colour Image of the Week I thought I’d continue the theme by including another image from a very recent wedding that I’m currently editing.   I was editing this particular set of images and as soon as I came across this image, I was immediately taken back to the moment a couple of weeks back;  I instinctively remember seeing the fathers face during the ceremony and how proud he seemed to be of his daughter.

Of course, I had to make a visual record of this and I really love this photo because it did exactly what a photograph should do – kindled a distinct memory in my mind of the moment I shot it.

I’ve been asked a lot lately about the X-Pro1 and how I’ve been getting on with it, especially at weddings.  You know, It’s wonderful.  It’s small, it’s discreet and it makes amazing pictures.  What more could you want?  I was shooting most of this wedding on the X-Pro1 system and used all three of the currently available prime lenses throughout the day.

Camera:  Fujifilm X-Pro1

Lens:  35mm 1.4
Shutter: 1/500th Second
Aperture: f/1.5
ISO: 1,000
Flash: Did not fire

Shooting & Processing:

It’s a straightforward shot really.  The wonderful bride and groom are clearly in the foreground (the wedding was in a small temple outside) but the focus during this exposure is the father.  More importantly, its the father’s facial expression.  It would be very easy to shoot the father just sat there, as a portrait perhaps, but the challenge we all have as wedding photographers is to tell a story and I think this works here.

I converted it to black and white (of course I did), but this is another image that deserves to be in colour.  It’s early November and late in the afternoon so the ISO level has been cranked up a little.  I wanted to show some of the greenery and autumnal colours before they disappeared.  The image has been processed from JPG, not RAW in this instance and corrected to a certain extent in Lightroom before being retouched in Photoshop.

So here it is; Pride (comments always appreciated of course):

Okay… this has convinced me. I’ve been umming and erring about this system for so long, but it just looks frankly amazing. Time to end my romance with the M8 perhaps! Fabulous image, wonderful context. A winner!
