Weddings at The Savoy and Claridge’s London
Weddings at the Savoy and Claridge’s London can only be very classy affairs – and this wedding, in July, was no exception. Kavita and Anthony asked me to document their wedding, pictorially, starting out at The Savoy Hotel, and them, moving on for a private dining celebration at Gordon Ramsay’s at Claridge’s.
The majority of these images are black and white – as that was the wish of Anthony and Kavita. There is a splash of colour though of course. Many of these photographs were shot with the Fuji X100 alongside my existing Canon gear. There are a lot of images in this selection, mostly because I really love them of course, but I also want to show off some more of the X100 images – which this type of intimate wedding is a perfect camera to use.
Hopefully, regular readers of my blog and past and future wedding photography clients understand that I class myself as a pure documentary wedding photographer. Storytelling of the wedding is the key facet of my remit.
You perhaps will also know that I’m a huge fan of the old filmatic style images and as such, I edit my work to resemble film produced images as much as possible. I’ll keep an eye out for details and shoot within the storytelling paradigm as much as possible. For example, the images of Kavita’s stunning wedding dress below were shot in-situ, with no prompting, directing, moving or orchestrating from me at all. An adjustment of my camera angle allowed me to get some interesting shots in a confined space of the dress.
Anthony and Kavita had a wonderful ceremony at The Savoy, followed by afternoon tea with their close friends and family. A quick break from the day at The American Bar for a cocktail before being whisked off in The Phantom to Clardge’s in Mayfair. Here, Kavita and Anthony enjoyed a private dining evening at Gordon Ramsay’s.
The very last image in this set is perhaps my favourite. I had been told, quite directly, that photography in the main restaurant area at Claridges was prohibited (which I fully understand). However, Kavita wanted a wide shot of the whole table, which wasn’t really possible at the time. I waited until I was on my way out of the restraunt, turned on my heels and shot one frame using the X100. I love this image – it was a very lucky moment of course, as Kavita and Anthony are kissing at the moment of exposure. This shot would not have been possible with a DSLR in my opinion.
Weddings at the Savoy and Claridge’s, and in fact, London itself are a challenging place to work as a wedding photographer – especially in multiple locations, however, it affords itself to documentary wedding photography so well. Especially Weddings at the Savoy and Claridge’s
As mentioned, a larger selection than normal for the blog, but please feel free to leave a comment.

Great work as always Kevin. Love the close up detail of his hand around her waist.
Stunning wedding Kevin! Some excellent moments captured and it also goes to show that having a documentary wedding photographer doesn’t mean you won’t get detail shots.
Nice work kevin – great use of perspective with photographing the dress in situ & glad to hear you are still bending the rules on ‘no photography ‘ !!!
Excellent story telling. I get a real feel for the day from these. What percentage of this selection would you estimate were taken on your Fuji X100?
17 of the images are on the X100 Graham.
That’s roughly 36.96%. I’m sold : )
Wow Kevin, these are stunning. Your work is constantly inspiring to me. I love some of the detail shots you have in this one, like the dress bunched on the floor and what I assume is the best man holding the ring box. My favourite has to be her getting out of the car, I love how you have used the sun and how beautiful her dress looks in it.
I really like the tone you have in your b&w’s makes the photo seem timeless somehow.
Great use of the X100 as well, prefect for bending the rules!
Amazing scene setting again Kevin, stunning work.
Hey Kevin,
These are stunning! You’ve captured some amazing moments. Lovely to see them in stills
Wow these are lovely, what a stunning location so many moments captured throughout the day. The couple would be over the moon with these!
WOW WOW WOW – what an amazing set of photos they are beautiful!
The best London Wedding images I have EVER seen!!! Very moving, romantic and chic, first class just like the venues. (especially love the leaning at the bar shot and getting in the cab, fantastic!)
Kevin, I am positively drooling over these images. I know everything about the wedding looks stunning from that fabulous dress to the amazing venue but what is most striking to me is the wonderful cinematic feel to the images whilst still capturing the essence of this couple’s wedding day. I feel like I’m looking at stills from a very glamorous film. Absolutely beautiful.
I really liked your work. I Like the way how you edit your photos!
You have an uncanny knack of being everywhere at once, and your timing is impeccable. Beautiful work.
Flippin’ wow Kevin… one of your best outputs ever? So many of these images are truly wonderful, but that last shot into the dining hall is unbelievable. Very well done mate.

All stunning images, love the ceremony story telling and unique style that you have used to capture these precious moments. Inspiring.
Wonderful shots, they look like they have really captured the emotion of the day, really like the one of the bride being helped out of the car.
Documentation to a T. In agreement with the previous post. The car shot does it for me, you stepped out of your normal edit and it works. Keep up the great work.
