Weddings at Postlip Barn
Weddings at Postlip Barn are always fun to photograph. I know this, as I’ve been there a few times now. Postlip Barn is the working Tithe barn of the community at Postlip Hall, which is a community of eight families working and living together in a large Cotswolds Manor house. Pete and Nikki had approached me to photograph their wedding after seeing some of my work via my Twitter feed.
The marriage itself, legally, had taken place earlier in the day and Pete and Nikki were going to have an extremely relaxed Humanist ceremony at the copse on the hill in the grounds of the Postlip Barn. When I arrived everyone was busy helping out, including moving all the chairs up from the barn to the ceremony area.
Shortly after, everyone followed Nikki and Pete as they walked up the hill to the copse for the wedding ceremony itself.
I hadn’t photographed a Humanist ceremony before and it turned out to be a beautiful and relaxed service. The readings were conducted by Pete and Nikki’s children and there was a back drop of quiet folk singing echoing between the trees. It was really quite magical.
After the ceremony, everybody made their way across to the lawn for champagne – the weather was spectacular at this point and there was plenty of time for the children to explore, running and jumping over things before the dinner and the speeches. Pete’s son performed admirably during the speeches and his dad looked on very proudly I thought. A little impromptu concert by some of the younger guests and then it was time for me to take my leave.

Lovely work as always Kevin – love the man/child going/coming round the corner.
Having been in high school with Pete, it’s fantastic to see how someone’s life and family have grown since then. He hasn’t changed a bit, save for the beard. It was longer in school.

Some simply superb images here Kevin. There’s a humour creeping in more and more which I love; the young person’s head appearing out of the older person’s body as they round the corner too. I like to think I can tell when a photographer has truly engaged with a day, and I think these pictures show it!
