Clearwell Castle Wedding Photography
Clearwell Castle Wedding Photography in May for Zoe and Mark. They had approached me a while back about photographing their wedding in the relaxed and unobtrusive way wedding photojournalists like myself work. Clearwell Castle, though relatively close, and a relatively popular wedding venue is one that I had never worked at before so it was lovely to get an opportunity to shoot this wedding for Zoe and Mark.
Sadly the weather was not great, which meant the guests didn’t really enjoy much of the lovely gardens Clearwell has. I was only at the wedding for a short period of time – enough to capture some bridal prep, the ceremony and some speeches before disappearing off into the wet Gloucestershire evening.
I know Zoe and Mark had been working hard planning this wedding and it was wonderful to see so many people there really enjoying themselves (despite the weather). The ceremony itself was gorgeous of course, and the wedding breakfast looked so lovely I had to get a shot of it being delivered to the tables.
As always, here are a small selection of my favourites from the day. Remember, as a documentary wedding photographer I do not move, touch, direct or orchestrate anything so all these images are shot as genuine moments from the wedding day. It is often possible to get detail shots, such as shoes etc within context – even with reportage wedding photography.

Excellent images Kevin; no change there.
I really love the shot of the bridesmaids poofing up the dress. Really lovely moment.
Thanks Joseph. All shot with a Fuji X-Pro1 too
Love that place and those images are just stunning!! (As always
)
great pics as ever, love the colour stuff as well
Gorgeous, gorgeous set of images Kevin! One of your best yet I think and I love the detail shots!
Gorgeous! Especially the flowers, fluffing of the dress and the bride and bridesmaids rushing to get in out of the rain.
Lovely work Kevin and nicely done with the Fuji! Will this replace your Dslr’s?
Thanks Alexis – it has replaced the DSLR for quite a bit of the day but not completely. I tend to see what venue I’m working at, the surroundings, the amount of people etc before deciding which camera I will use primarily on the day. I always have a DSLR with me too though.
Lovely work Kevin, love the shot at the dressing table of the flower girl looking, a nice moment
Lovely moments captured. Great use of ambient in the shots. I particularly like how you pull out and incorporate the whole scene in your images in order to tell the story.
Lovely images Kevin, I love the the photo of the bride coming down the stairs with her Dad, great light, and great expression on her face.
Beautiful photos, I love the waitress photo, such a simple photo but done so well.
Lovely images kevin. Especially like the preparation shots.
Lovely photos Kevin, especially the toned reportage shots…..
Brilliant collection, too many awesome images to choose as my favourite. Very very inspiring.
Stunning images of the bridal prep – you’ve captured the dress beautifully.
Absolutely beautiful Kevin…I know you don’t want to share your B&W conversion techniques, but can you tell me whether they are done in photoshop or LR ?
all the best,
Andy.
All of the above B&W Images Andy were shot as in camera B&W JPGs on the Fuji X-Pro1
Slow shutter – Waitress with food on plates – Like that one
