Newport Gwent Dragons v Leeds Carnegie
Last night, Charlotte at Newport Gwent Dragons, very kindly gave me accreditation to photograph the pre-season friendly between Newport Gwent Dragons and Leeds Carnegie.
I remember, as a child, going with my school to Rodney Parade to watch Newport v New Zealand. It wasn’t the first time I’d been to Rodney Parade, but it was one of the first memories I have of the wonderful game of rugby. I was seven and I remember the whole class sitting on the touch-line. We were so close to the action that we couldn’t really see what was going on. I vividly remember lots of legs rushing past every now and again and the smell of liniment, earth and grass. It was definitely the start of my affiliation with the game of rugby.
Although I am a documentary wedding photographer, I absolutely love getting the opportunity to photograph rugby. I try to do it with my own documentary approach – so the types of images I produce are not necessarily the types of images that you would see in the press.
As the sun set over Newport and Rodney Parade, I settled down with my trusty Canon EOS 1D Mark IV and here are a few of my favourites from the game last night, which Newport Gwent Dragons won 29 -13. If you wish to purchase any prints, please let me know – and also be aware that all of my rugby print sales profits go to the a local Children’s Hospice in Bristol in memory of Kevin Magg’s young daughter.

Great shots Kevin. My favourite is probably the first one. Did he get the pass away in the second one?
Love it Kevin! Beautiful shots, I think #3 is my fave
Lovely work as usual Kev. Number 5 is a cracking image.
