Malmesbury Carnival
Malmesbury Carnival Photos
I’m amazingly lucky to live in the wonderfully historic Wiltshire town of Malmesbury. I’ve lived here now for about seven years and it’s a place I’m very pleased to call home. Each year, the town puts on a month of festivities during August culminating in the Malmesbury Carnival.
For the last two years, due to wedding photography commitments I’ve had to miss the carnival procession but this year I was lucky enough to be home for the day. The weather was good (for a change) and we took the kids to fair before firing up the BBQ and waiting for the carnival procession.
The carnival itself goes right past our house, so we set up a few chairs and got our charity box out ready to give to the various collections through out the procession. I grew up in Newport, South Wales, and as a child I remember going to the carnival there with my parents. My overriding memory is the base drums seemingly shaking my heart around inside my chest. Sadly Newport stopped having their carnival and I think its sad that so many towns are cancelling theirs due to cuts.
I’m really pleased that my kids have been able to experience the carnival at close quarters. As a town, we have a whole load of volunteers to thank for the whole of August and all the different activities that are put on throughout the town. I believe this year we also have Dyson to thank for sponsoring the carnival.
Here are a few snaps I took outside our house. I only had an 85mm lens but wanted to capture some of the elements of the Carnival for my kids and my own memories.
Rosa (pictured in the first shot with her cousin Raffi) starts school tomorrow and I just can’t believe how fast time is marching on……I know she loved the carnival and I think everyone in town would agree with me that it was a brilliant organised and executed procession. Well done Malmesbury!

Brilliant. Love seeing some of your work that’s away from weddings for a change. Gorgeous light. Love the image of the beer belly and the drum, and also the image of the pom pom group because of the facial expressions. Great street photography.
