Award Winning Wedding Photographs from ISPWP: It’s been a long hard week with plenty of weddings in the blazing heat (all good of course), some training, lots of editing little R&R for me. So, I was delighted this morning when I received an email from the International Society of Professional Wedding Photographers (of which I am one of a select few UK based members) announcing the results of the Spring 2012 quarterly wedding photography competition.
The International Society of Professional Wedding Photographers (ISPWP) is a rarity among wedding photography organizations. Photographers cannot simply buy an ISPWP membership, they have to earn it.
Our requirements are experience, talent, and professionalism. To be accepted, a photographer must have shot at least 50 weddings, submit their portfolio for review, agree to operate under the ISPWP Code of Conduct, and have an ISPWP Sponsor or four references. And THEN they have to be voted in by current members.
In short, when you hire an ISPWP Photographer, you are hiring a talented veteran with a track record, peer recognition, and a passion for creating heirloom images of your wedding.
I was thrilled with my 6th place in the “Kids” category with an image taken last year at The Abbey House Gardens, here in Malmesbury. I adore this picture and featured it a few times last year. Kids are great to photograph at weddings and this little chap was taking awaiting that very nervous moment where he would be called forward for the ceremony.
I was also thrilled with being placed 19th in the “Family Love” category with this image from Kajal and Nik’s Asian Wedding last year also. This image was one I was very proud of. From a technical standpoint it was extremely difficult – late in the evening, in a dark room with no natural light. I shot this image at the boundaries really of what the camera could do without the intervention of flash. The moment is the touch – the faces are not relevant in the image. It breaks all the rules of composition but this image really is the type of photograph that makes me proud to have captured.
The ISPWP is a select group of some of the world’s best Wedding Photographer’s and to be placed the competitions, for me, is a huge achievement. These two placings add to the previous three that I have been awarded by the ISPWP. You can see a summary of all my Award Winning Wedding Photographs on this site.
